Politics of the Middle East and Turkey

Ezgi Başaran is a writer and scholar of Middle Eastern and Turkish politics, based in Oxford.
She began her career in Istanbul as a journalist covering the Kurdish conflict and the transformation of the Turkish state.
At the University of Oxford, she earned an MPhil and DPhil in Modern Middle Eastern Studies, and has taught politics of the Middle East at the graduate level.
She is the author of Frontline Turkey (2017), and The New Spirit of Islamism (2024).
She writes the weekly dispatch Angle, Anchor and Voice, which explores current developments in the Middle East, North Africa, and Turkey.
